Support East Rock Creek Village

Friends and neighbors came together in 2012 to begin to create East Rock Village, a nonprofit corporation offering the services, expertise, and social activities to upper Ward 4 residents who want to stay in their own homes throughout their lives. Founding Board members donated startup funds and several fundraising drives resulted in a growing interest, and a substantial number of membership pledges, to start the village.

The so-called “aging-in-place” movement has taken hold in communities nationwide. Articles appear regularly in the Washington Post, the New York Times, and AARP magazine, in addition to reports on radio and TV, documenting this trend and spreading the word. There are now hundreds throughout the United States, and more than a dozen in the Washington, DC, metropolitan area. The Washington area villages have even formed an umbrella organization, the Washington Area Village Exchange, to nurture and support the village movement in our area.

In addition to donations from individuals, we are pursuing grants from foundations, civic organizations, and local government.

As East Rock Creek Village looks to the future, we depend upon that spirit of determination and generosity, as well as the growing sense of satisfaction that comes from looking after ourselves and one another, whether by volunteering or by making cash contributions to support this effort. We hope that donations matched with grant money, for example, will ensure that lower-income residents profit from our programs and services and that Village membership will reflect the economic diversity of neighborhoods that comprise the village.
